Thailand trip Day 5

7th December 2005

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was fabulous. There was a wide variety of food that my family could eat, like the mashed potato, danish, crossaint, vegetarian dishes and salad.I personally like the mashed potato (though some are not really mashed up) where i put an italian dressing and some salad dressings on it.It was perfect. The italian dressing made a bit of the sour taste while the salad dressing is healthy. But beware, don't take too much or you'll feel like vomitting.Yup. Not that i had vomitted though. We went back to the hotel to do what we always do;letting it all go.After that we left the hotel to start our tour around Bangkok. The streets of Bangkok hold many historic monuments and sculptures and decorations to commemorate the King's birthday. The streets were quite busy at that time and we passed several fast food restaurant including the ancient A&W.Unfortunately all of the fast food resturants aren't Halal. Now who the heck labelled A&W as a Halal foodstore on the internet?tsk tsk tsk.

Anyway we reached our destination.Surprisingly we had to take a long boat that could occupy about 30 people down the river.I was hoping a lot from this. The boat started moving and soon a tour guide started introducing herself and the river. It was the quite famous Chao Phraya river. The 'Phraya' isn't pronounced at it is.Instead it is pronounced as 'Phya'.That is if my memory did not fail me.The ride was a bit bumpy but all in all it was awesome. The tour guide was efficient. She ran through some key words to say during our stay in Thailand and introduced the significance of the river and the buildings we passed. There were many temples but I only remembered one.It was nicknamed as the 'James Bond temple'.No, James Bond did not build it but it was that temple that one of the episodes of James Bond 007 was shot at.Yup.We moved down the river and saw this place where we could feed the fishes with bread our tour guide gave us.It was catfishes that we fed to.The sign indicating the place where there is a lot of catfish was very funny.

Im so bad...

Anyway there was a lot of hungry fishes coming up to the surface as soon as we started feeding them. They must be really hungry!Soon we continued our journey where we saw this HUGE lizards on the edge of the river. They looked like komodo dragons, but a little smaller than that, probably half as tall and half as thin as me if they were to stand on 2 legs(in which they didn't). Later, there was a lady in a smaller boat that went against our direction. She was selling some handicrafts from her floating shop. There used to be a lot of such smaller boats that formed the floating market. The government then reduced the huge number to only a few as to make way for a passage for tourists like us.Yay. We stopped after a few minutes of travelling once again where we visited a local shop selling local merchandise like souveniers, clothes and handicrafts. The half an hour long break was a necessity to shopaholics and tolietholics. What a coincidence! My mom found out that one of our boatmates is my aunty's friend(with her family)!haha. What a small world.

Soon we boarded the boat again and stopped later at the local snake zoo.We didn't want to go in not only cuz its quite expensive but the fact that we were very tired and just wanted to rest. The rest was certainly fruitful but a little extra long.We continued our journey by ending at where we started.Unfortunately the tide was high and some barricades that protects the buildings near to sides of the river was activated. We had to wait for it to open, enter and wait for another barricade to open. Its somehow like the one in the Suez Canal just that it is simpler. It took about a total of 15minutes before we set off to our starting point, passing government buildings and more temples.

Back on dry land and in the van!We now proceeded to another restaurant for lunch. On the way, we saw something we don't see in modern Singapore.A protest.Yup.It wasn't scary as they weren't very rebellious.Armed with orange headbands, they marched their way against our direction.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The food wasn't that fantastic but it was enough to fill our stomachs. My mom ordered spring rolls that had chicken fillings, to be taken back to our hotel for muching purposes. After lunch, we prayed at a mosque across the street where we met my aunty's friend's family again!haha...

We then went to a local jewellery store where they showed us how they make their jewel studded products. The precious stones ranges from ruby to sapphires. If I'm not wrong, this is the only place where you can find authentic and cheap jewellery since it is the largest precious stone production factory in the world and that the stones are from Thailand itself.

Next, it was shopping time at the largest shopping mall in Bangkok. The Mah Bung Krong(MBK).That should be how you spell it.I guess. Here is where i bought my coat and belt for prom. The coat cost me 1600baht(about S$64) while the belt 350baht(aboutS$14).The coat was originally about 1880 baht while the belt 390baht.So it was quite a good deal i guess knowing that u can bargain. But don't even try to bargain at Tokyu.Tokyu is this shop that is similar to Metro or Isetan. And obviously u cant bargain with them rite?

We went back to our hotel my taking the sky train system.Let me introduce you to the sky train system.Firstly, like the MRT system in Singapore, it is run by 2 companies, forming the MRTA and BTS(we took the BTS).Secondly the distance apart between stations of the sky train is about the same to the distance apart between stations in our LRT system. So the prices isn't as expensive as the ones in our MRT if you were to buy the single trip tickets or the standard tickets. Its like 10baht(40cents) for one station.Well of course if you were to travel about 5 stations, it would be cheaper than50 baht.say around 40 or 35 baht?Did i mention that the Bangkok sky train would bring memories to our passe fare card?Well the Bangkok sky train system used the fare card system. You know, those thin flexible magnetic cards we have?I bought the cheapest one for memory.haha.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
That's my sister buying the tickets.I taught her how to buy the tickets.haha =)

Our ride was 4 stations long.We boarded at National Stadium and dropped down at Nana.Btw the announcer had to speak both in Thai and English and the train is about the size of 2 LRT carriages and the ride was very seamless.Probably cuz its small compared to the 6 carriage MRT.Or is it 8?I forgot.

We reached Nana and with the help of a salesperson, found our way back to hotel. We quickly prayed and left for dinner at First Hotel, where we had our first lunch upon arrival.Today's dinner is a buffet of tomato rice or plain rice, chicken, vegetable, and frien wanton!YAY.Gosh the fried wanton was nice especially if u add the chilli sauce that was a bit hot.

After dinner we took the van back. My parents wanted to go to MBK centre for some shopping but then due to some miscommunication between us and the driver, we went back to the hotel. Furthermore, if we were to go MBK centre, most of the shops would be closed by then. On our way back we saw some elephants along the streets. I was so shocked that there were elephants along the capital state of Bangkok especially along the busy streets. There were two owners to each elephant who were selling bananas and sugar cane for people to feed them. The elephants quickly eat the food when given the food unlike in Chiangmai. The elephant must be very hungry. Things people would do to make business. They'll make the elephant go slightly hungry so that it'll eat whatever the people give.

Thailand trip Day 4

6th December 2005

Thank God today will be the last dejavu breakfast at Lotus Hotel. Before breakfast i thought of looking at the swimming pool since i didn't have time to visit the pool before.Unfortunately it was closed so i couldn't swim.Instead i just walked around the premises. Its quite nice lah.Beside the pool is this place where you can chill known something as 'Sah Lah Fah Ham'.Well it sounds like 'salah faham' which means 'misuderstood' in Malay.haha.So funny

Anyway after breakfast we went to the pool area as a family before heading back to our rooms to let go and get ready for our departure.Yup letting it all go.Again.

We then went out of the hotel and walked around the area near our hotel.By the way, did i mentioned that there is a lot of 7-eleven shops nearby.Once i saw two stores across the street, facing each other. What the?I don't see any purpose.Anyway my sister came across a signboard to all drivers.Unfortunately it was poorly said.Meaning that the English was poor. Why not take a look.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Gosh that is so funny.
Fault 1:the sign is for cars only, not all vehicles
Fault 2:be afraid,or else you'll be finded...muhahaha...
Fault 3:"disobey must..."?
Fault 4:Pedestrains?Choo choo...

We checked out about half an hour early and so sat at the hotel lobby to read newspaper and wait for our tour guide. When it was about time, she fetched us and we took a picture together before leaving for the airport. Our flight was about at 12.15 in the noon.Yup.The flight would be from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.Taking the plane is so fun.hehee
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
The tour guide might look like Ms Annabel Ho at some angle. My hair sucks cuz i didn't style it.

Anyway we then proceeded to ChiangMai International Airport. Each Thai airlines has a name. The one i took to Bangkok from ChiangMai is called Srisoonthorn.By the way before the plane we bought some Lays to eat whenever we feel like muching. Now here's the twist. The word 'Lays' isn't written as it is.It is written as 'Lau'.the 'u' is actually a Thai alphabet. So instead of Lays, its Lau.WALAU! khahaha...Then what happened was the whole packet became very turgid when we were at high altitude in the plane. The Lau is so hard, its like a balloon.Gosh i feel like bursting it.haha...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Thats my sister. As in the thumbs up lah...

We reached Bangkok International Airport and there is no need for our passports to be checked.Well cuz its still within Thailand u see.Our tour guide wasn't there, but we were welcomed by the driver who could speak very little English.First stop, First Hotel for lunch. The road to the hotel was a long one, passing highways and busy roads. It feels like in Singapore where you have the expressways and busy road. The time in Bangkok is one hour later than Singapore.
We finally reached the hotel and waited a few minutes before food is served. We met a Singaporean family in the hotel. My mom chatted with them and found a similarity. We both know my sister's friends's family.Riiiite...
Food is here.It was quite hot but its still nice.Duh hotel food must be nice mah.

We left for our hotel(Ambassador Hotel) which is quite a distant away from First Hotel. We tooked a long time to checked in(I wonder why). Before that i went to the toilet to let go.I shall not elaborate much. But lets just say that the flushing wasn't easy.haha

Dissapointingly the hotel room wasn't fabulous.I expected the standards to be higher than in Chiangmai cuz Bangkok is the capital of Thailand mah.Firstly the design wasn't great, secondly the 'bed skirt' was dirty, thirdly there was no complimentary drink unlike in Chiangmai, fourthly the toilet is small and WORSE it had a bad view of a construction site(dun really blame the management much).haiyo...i mean WaLau..haha
guess what?I can't swim here. The pool is under renovation. Its suppose to end on the 5th of December, but its delayed.haiz...

We spent the whole afternoon in the hotel either relaxing, unpacking and then walking around the hotel area until about 6 where we prayed(its at 7 in Singapore) and left for dinner. It was only when we're going to our dinner restaurant that we met our tour guide and another family from Singapore. My mom chatted with the mum of the other family on our journey to the restaurant. When we reached there, we were invited to this restaurant where it had all the Arabic writings and nice Malay decorations.few minutes later a family of 7 arrived and joined us.So now we have a table with 12 people. All Singaporeans. All Malay. That is unless some of them are Javanese, Boyanese or wtv.Main point we speak Malay.Dinner was nice.Rice, fish, meat, tom yam, vegetables and some other dishes. After dinner we decided to go to the night bazaar. It was this time that we saw some weird coloured taxis. They come in green and yellow, red, purple and HOT PINK.Yup.Different colours represents the different companies just like in Singapore where we have blue, yellow, silver, white but sadly not pink.haha.

11 December 2005

Thailand trip Day 3

5th December 2005

Woke up abit late and almost missed the prayers time. Its so cold when i woke up.The aircon was put a little low.haha.After prayers and bathing we headed down to the familiar hotel restaurant for a familiar meal.Yup same thing.Crossaint, danish, egg cake and cocopop/crunch.Hmm..But after eating all the food, some have to make way.Meaning after breakfast i went back to my room toilet to..err...let go.Yup.We then get ready our cold outfit as we're gonna go up the highest mountain in Thailand and its gonna be VERY cold.Probably about 16 degrees.
The trip was long and boring that i slept almost throughout the whole journey. We stopped at a checkpoint for toilet break where some people sold tamarind and flowers. Not in the toilet of course.Hahaha...Anyway the trip to the peak of the mountain from the hotel is about 3 hours.

Finally.Oh yeah its so cold that i was shivering. The sun is shining but its so cold.Wanna noe why?Well obviously cuz its high up and that the clouds is practically passing through me.Its so gd to have the passing clouds to touch your face.It doesn't feel anything but u noe its good.haha.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Nono thats not a haze.Those are clouds.Yup

Then we took a picture at the signboard which says that it is the highest spot in Thailand.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Thanks to our tour guide,Miao I think thats how u spelt it.yes Miao Hua, she's your friend.haha

Anyway we went down to the sounvenir shop.Thats how they spelt it (American style) though the 'i' dropped, naming the shop 'souven r shop'.heheeIt didn't really sell a lot of interesting stuff except this fridge magnet which has a thermometer on it.I read it.16degrees.Mum bought it

Lets take the van.We went down a few metres and visited 2 Pagodas dedicated to the King and Queen. You know why there is a lot of people?Cuz its Father's Day today.Notice the position of the apostrophe.Confused?Surely.In Thailand, today is Father's Day.Not a day to celebrate all fathers but to celebrate the King's birthday.Since he is deemed the 'father' of Thailand and that today is his birthday, today is Father's Day!YAY

The pagoda contain a statue of Buddha each; the King's Pagoda has a sleeping Buddha while the Queen has a standing Buddha.I noticed too that the King's pagoda is higher than the Queen's.Well, thats not surprising.

Lets go down. Here its no longer cold.We visited a local tribe market where a lot of vegetables and fruits can be found.I saw this girl carrying her brother/sister by her back.Darn its cute.haha.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I thought of buying somthing and so bought some red cherries and white atapchi(whoever u spell it).You noe, those white thing u put in ice kacang?Yup.The atapchi wasn't hard, surprisingly. It was a little harder than a normal jelly. And for the cherry, its not really cherry. It is quite hard and has a seed in it.Then we went to have our packed lunch at a nearby seat.Unfortunately it started raining as soon as we sat down.Thankfully the hawker across the street allowed us to eat our food in their area.

Guess what? The chicken tasted like KFC's.Im serious though KFC's is still better. Its finger licking good!haha

Then we moved on and visited a natural water fall.It so big and its splashing water all over. But so fun...haha
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Its vegetarian if u get what i mean.hahaha

Back to the hotel and left again for dinner.Since today is the last night in Chiangmai, we decided to take a picture with the restaurant people and the driver(since he won't meet us tomorrow). The mum of the Yunnan restaurant owner took a picture with my mom.As though 2 long lost sisters reunited.haha.Awww...

Next stop, Night market again!Hahaha...
I wanted to buy this traditional shirt that looks nice.Unfortunately i have to reserve my money for buying my prom stuff.darn.Anyway I'm quite choosy. Some of the designs aren't really nice while most of them are quite translucent.haiz...
My mum bought this cushion with someone who looks like a ladyboy. You noe, ladyboy.Guys who dress up like women.Yup IronLadies. I have met a few already. Its quite obvious they look a little like men.Well for all you noe half of the women i saw were previously men.MUAHAHAHAhaha...lets not be so bad here.

We returned home by the taxi.here are pictures of it

OMG!ITS NOT HALAL!its babi..there's pork in it...haha
babi=pig in Malay

10 December 2005

Thailand trip Day 2

4th December 2005

Woke up around 5.30 for morning prayers since it's earlier than in Singapore and watched the TV before heading down for breakfast.Darn the restaurant for not having an all Halal meal.So we could only eat the ceral, drinks and some of the bread.Today i met a new friend. He's from the southern part of Thailand and could speak Thai and Malay. Now here's the funny and regretful part. Firstly he greeted me in Arab and i greeted him back. Then he asked "Boleh cakap Melayu?", which means "Can speak Malay?" I said "Boleh" which means "Can" but accidentally, these few words came out of my mouth: "sikit-sikit".DARN. Basically it means "a little".HELLO?!I study Malay in school and although its quite bad, conversational Malay shouldn't be much of a problem rite?Haiz...so regretting.I told my family members and they laugh.Anyway I had cococrunch(they called it cocopops) with milk, croissant, danish and this thing which looks like an egg pie.It was quite okay.

Then we went to an Maesa Elephant Camp.Yup u heard me.I mean saw wad i typed.=P
Aniway in this camp we could feed the elephants with the sugar cane and bananas sold by the vendors and take a close shot with the elephants.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Its scary okay.Look the baby elephant seems to be smiling with the lion(me)

By the way, each elephant has a personal trainer.Yep.Then all of the elephant made their way to the river to soak, bathe and have fun and all of de sudden, this yellow coloured mass came floating. What on earth is that?OH GOSH!It's the elephant's faeces!By goodness its all yellow and could float. The reason is that the elephants are vegetarian and have A LOT of roughage in the faeces. Then we went up and sat at what looked like a stadium for the elphant show. My goodnes they're smart. They carried objects, lay down on the floor, placed the feet on their trainers body without hurting him, played with the owner's hat,PLAYED SOCCER(better than me) and PAINT(its nice, really for an elephant)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I told you.It's a plant with flowers.

After leaving the camp, which has their very own natural waterfall, we went to the Orchid farm where we observe how orchirds are being grown. The farm holds a wide range of orchids of different colours. In the farm there is this enclosure that has 'metal curtains'.I was wondering what it was until i read the heading over the door "Butterfly Fram" No, really fram. Why not take a look and laugh.Hahaha...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Welcome to Butterfly Fram! =>

In the enclosure theres quite a number of butterflies, many which likes to land on my sister's head(on the scarf rather).Sorry mum they don't like your scarf.Well probably cuz the colour is not very attractive.Yeah.
After that, we went back to our hotel for prayers and chilled out a little. It wasn't long until we went back to the van and proceeded on with our tour.Firstly we went to an umbrella factory where they make umbrellas using a fibre known as 'saa', from the mulbery tree. You noe, those traditional umbrella that looks like its been made of paper.Well its not really just paper from the tree, but saa paper. As most Malays like to say,'Saak ah!' Yeah something like that.It was quite interesting how they make the umbrella.By the way its mostly hand made, especially the designs. These artisans are really skillful okhay. The drawings on the umbrella are attractive.
Next we went to the jewellery store.Well they don't only show and sell how they make the jewelleries for accessories but product that has gold on it. Yup.For example these ducks you see here(below) are painted gold and then added gold to it.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Here ducky-ducky...

Then we went to the silk factory.Obviously u noe that silk comes from silk worm, but do u really noe how exactly it is being done?Well first they will feed the smelly silk worms until they become ultra fat.You normally see them moving. In order to see their movements, gently blow on them and they'll all move creepily. When they are ultra large they will go to the pupae stage by producing threads and wound themselves up.While some pupae are saved so that the young can be produced, the rest are thrown into a cauldron of piping hot boiling water where they simply die.RIP?Not really. The cocoon is then taken and the threads are taken out.Now that is raw silk. The person would then wound out all of the silk into a ball. And voila!A ball of silk. Now the ball is used to make lengths of silk cloth that can be used to make clothes, scarf and boxers.Yup u got me.Boxers.Well come to think of it its quite okay.Imagine something smooth protecting your little brother.Hmm.Your brother is so pampered.haha.
Anyway we went to the next factory, where all the wooden products can be found ranging from statues, furnitures and handicrafts. It was nothing really interesting.Just that they have an enormous gallery of wooden products.

The tour is done. Now we proceeded back to the hotel and wait for dinner.Yup same place for dinner.

After dinner is the fun part.Shopping!Well not at town but at the local night market.I heard that the night market is like in Brunei, where it is opened every night from about late afternoon to about 9 or 10 at night. By the way the time there is about 1hr 10mins later than Singapore. The night market sells mainly clothes and accessories. Not much of food.I saw many branded clothes ranging from billabong, adidas, abidas,Von Dutch, Guess, diesel and many more.Really.Its 99% original if u get what i mean.Cuz some of the Von Dutch has been changed to Vond utch, adidas to abidas and diesel to die sel.haha.You might think hard on whether the Billabong boardshorts and shirts are imitation copies or not.Think no further. If it is sold in the night market at low prices, you noe its fake.Furthermore, look closely. It says Billabong USA, instead of Billabing Australia.Hahaha.Yup

Thank God.We saw a stall that sells halal food.Time for me to munch! She sells 'rotee' which looks like prata with fillings.Btw the writing in thai looks like 'Isa'.Hahaha isa is rotee/roti.ANiwae the fillings include corn, milo, cheese or chicken. For me i still prefer the original chicken where we call is murtabak back in Singapore though the cheese is quite okay.I don't really like the corn.hehee...

Back to hotel. We took a taxi that looks like a van.We can bargain for the price and they can take more than a group of passengers.Which means strangers other than my family members can take it.But thankfully none did.I forgot to bring my camera so can't get a shot.Maybe tomorrow?

Thailand trip Day 1

3rd December 2005

Ok i forgot what time i woke up but ultimately we took a cab(2 cabs rather cuz got 5 pple) to the airport, checked in and waited for the gate to open.We were so early that we could spend time at the toilet, walk around the terminal and look what 'santa' gave us.It's this bag with brochures, chocolates and a plushie hung on the handle. It's so cute n i can hang it on my bag or use the sock to put my handphone in it.haha.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
So exciting! When i boarded the plane i was a bit dissapointed that not only the personal screen wasn't there(like what i had when coming back to Singapore from Brunei) but they didn't have that mime! You noe the MacDonalds advertisement for the grilled chicken foldover.Yeah.But aniwae it was alright in the end.I ate curry rice with tofu and chicken, this thing which looks like an hors d'oeuvre and a cake with cream.Oh yeah i had orange juice but no plain water cuz it wasn't served.Darn.Oh and did i mention that i was listening to an audio Thai airways had while eating?Yeah.First up was Hilary Duff's Wake Up(haha), Simple Plan Crazy and some other tracks i forgot.

The flight to Bangkok International Airport was 2hours.Then upon arrival we had to move to the transfer gate for another domestic flight to Chiangmai. It was 2 hours.Oh yeah did i mention that when we board down at Bangkok, we had to take a shuttle bus to the terminal. So un-modernise but i was fun though its about 5mins.Flight to Chiangmai wasn't that fun.The flight meal was only a snack;no rice,no music, onli nuts, drink and dried longans.Lucky when we alighted there was no shuttle bus but only a passageway to the terminal where we checked out.The checking out counter was so cool, no wonder Chiangmai Internationaol Airport has an ISO 9000-something.The counter has this camera where you're suppose 2 look into. After the immigrations officer has checked your passport and arrival card for a few minutes, the camera will record an image of you from head to toe via the camera.Cool rite?

Anyway, we then met out tour guide and proceeded to the hotel;Pang Suan Kaew Lotus Hotel.Okay now i cant remember where we went in order. But i do remembered that we had dinner at this Halal Yunnan restaurant. The food served was in large quantities that we couldn;t finish it.So my mom started telling onw of the staff to cook lesser since we're gonna eat at the same restaurant for the rest of the stay in Chiangmai.Yeah u heard me.The same restaurant for 3days.Be it lunch or dinner.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
That's my sister. The thumbs up says it all.But i'll give 3.75 stars out of 5.hehe

We went back and spend some time and money at the hotel shopping mall. After that its lights off for me.
